Image effects

Designing for the stage, I initially design around the themes of the story and translate them into a concept which tends to be quite abstract. These concepts then get developed by working with the director and research to draw up potential designs that may be a route to take. I demonstrate ideas through drawing in sketchbooks and using references to visually communicate to the director and others where the designs are going. Drawing is a quicker and more effective way of working for me as I can visualise ideas and workings out for anyone to understand. I also use influences from artists or art movements that end up dictating the style of the set and its at this point that I start to work into the model. While model making I am figuring out how to realise the designs, which is where the stage of producing technical drawings and ground plans begin.
